The Wellbeing & Recovery Research Institute (WARRI) was established formally on 10 May 2019, through registration with ASIC as a registered company limited. WARRI is registered as an Australian Charity with the ACNC effective from 1 July 2019, and received Approved Research Institute (ARI) status from the NHMRC on 17 December 2019.
Prior to formal establishment as a research institute, PsychMed engaged in research activities, relating to their government-funded clinical programs, for several years. PsychMed’s commitment to the delivery of best practice evidence-based treatment led to internal program evaluation to ensure best practice, and then to the the conduct of formal research design, conduct, and dissemination.
In 2017, the PsychMed Clinical Director, Dr Quentin Black met with the Hon. Dr David Gillespie during the course of his role as assistant Federal Minister for Health. Minister Gillespie undertook an introductory tour of several clinical programs, including the suicide prevention, methamphetamine addition recovery, relapse prevention, and TeleHealth hybrid gambling programs. Dr Gillespie met participants, praised the programs, and soon after announced additional funding for psychology and telehealth rebates nationally.
